Last weekend, my wife asked me to replace the kitchen faucet because it was old and the water flow had become weak. I hired a plumber for the job and observed the process on how to change kitchen faucet; he followed. He first turned off the water supply, then looked to see that the faucet was attached to the sink with two nuts. That is how he started the process. I have shared the detailed steps below.

How Do You Replace a Kitchen Faucet?

Here is the step-by-step process for replacing a kitchen faucet, as I observed while my plumber worked on it.

  1. First, he turned off the water supply from the valves under the sink.

  2. Then he opened the faucet to drain out any leftover water in the pipes.

  3. After that, he got underneath the sink and started loosening the two nuts holding the old faucet in place.

  4. For tight spots, he used a basin wrench to reach and turn the nuts.

  5. Once the nuts were off, he pulled the old faucet out from the sink.

  6. He cleaned the area around the sink holes to ensure it was ready for the new faucet.

  7. Next, he positioned the new faucet in place and tightened it from underneath using the same tools.

  8. Finally, he turned the water supply back on and tested the faucet to check for any leaks.

This is how my plumber replaced the kitchen faucet. I hope you understand how do I change a kitchen faucet.

My kitchen faucet was small, and because of that, it was becoming an issue to use the sink. I planned to replace it on my own, but didn’t know how to replace kitchen faucets. To learn about the steps, I started doing some research. I learned that the first step is to decide on the type of faucet I needed. It’s also necessary to learn how many holes were there in the existing sink.

How to Replace Kitchen Sink Faucet?

After finding the faucet that is needed, the next step was to turn off all the water supply valves and disconnect them. You must ensure the water doesn't flow at all. Here is what you can follow next.

  • Remove all the faucet connections. You can use a basin wrench, as this makes the job much easier.

  • Now, remove the old faucet. Take your time to do that, or else you might end up damaging the sink.

  • Clean the area of the faucet after that.

  • Slowly put the faucet in its place to install it and connect the water and flush lines to the corresponding valves.

  • Now, turn on the water supply to check if the water is following properly or not.

And that’s how to change kitchen faucet. The entire process was long and draining. At some point, I decided to just stop it and call a plumber for the job. I would suggest you hire a plumber if you are not sure of your DIY skills.

Hello Raj, I can show you how to change out a faucet in your kitchen. I have done this a couple of times successfully and believe that you’ll benefit from the steps I follow.

How to Change Kitchen Faucet?

  1. To begin with, turn off the water supply by shutting off the valves underneath the kitchen sink.  Use a pair of pliers for this.

  2. Disconnect the water supply lines using a wrench and make sure there is no water dripping from the sink.

  3. Leave it for an hour after placing a paper towel underneath. If you observe a slow drip through leakage, the lines will have to be replaced.

  4. Mark the hot and cold water supply connections to make sure the supply hoses are installed, and there isn’t a need for reinstallation.

  5. Take a wrench, disconnect the water supply lines, and then disconnect the lines from the tap as well.

  6. Take off the mounting nuts, which keep the tap connected to the sink, and remove the tap.

  7. After you disconnect the hoses, take it out and clean the surface using a multipurpose cleaning solution.

  8. Place the new tap in position with the help of the mounting holes. Reattach the supply lines.  Attach the lines with your hand and tighten them using a wrench.

  9. After you’ve placed the new tap in line, turn on the water supply and inspect any leakage.

  10. Tighten the connections and let the water flow for some time. This will help in clearing the pathway.

So, this is how to replace kitchen sink faucet.
