Hello everyone. I am a college student, and my friends and I are staying in a rental home, which you could call a bachelor pad. For our tub drain repair, I called a plumber. I observed the process he performed so I can tell you how to repair tub drain. Repairing it includes removing the waste drain, cleaning the gasket, followed by other steps. I have added the detailed process for you below.
How to Fix a Clogged Bathtub Drain?
Here are five steps to fix a clogged bathtub drain which the professional followed.
He grabbed our channel lock pliers and inserted them into the drain entrance.
Then, use a crescent wrench to turn it counter-clockwise.
After that, he used a wire brush to clear out dry plumber’s putty from the drain. If needed, you can scrape away old putty from the drain hole in the tub with a flathead screwdriver.
Once all the putty is gone, clean it up with a vacuum.
Now, use a flathead screwdriver to remove the old gasket.
He measured the gasket and got the right size for the new one and replaced the old gasket with it.
You can use Teflon tape on the drain to create a watertight seal, covering at least five threads from the drain.
My plumber said, if you skip the tape, it’s important to put the plumber\'s putty inside the drain cover.
After applying the putty, insert the waste drain and turn it clockwise using a drain wrench.
Once everything is done, wait 48 hours before showering or bathing to let the putty dry.
I hope now you know how to fix bathtub drain.
