Summary
Check sofa cushions for tears, loose threads, holes, or flat foam. Trim threads, clean the area, and stitch small tears neatly. Use fabric patches and glue for bigger holes. Replace old foam with suitable new foam for comfort. Insert filling evenly and add cotton batting if needed. Rotate cushions regularly and keep covers clean to maintain shape and comfort.

Here is how to fix sofa cushions:

  1. First, check all sofa cushions properly.

  2. Look for tears, holes, loose threads, flat foam, or uneven shape.

  3. This helps you understand what needs fixing and saves time later.

  4. Next, take a pair of scissors and cut all loose threads around the damaged area.

  5. Always clean the area before sewing so the repair looks neat and strong.

  6. Then, take a needle and thread that matches the cushion fabric. Stitch the tear slowly using small and tight stitches.

  7. Pull the thread firmly so the tear closes properly.

  8. Tie a strong knot at the end so the stitches do not open again.

  9. After that, check the size of the hole. If the hole is big, do the following:

  10. Cut a small piece of matching cloth.

  11. Apply fabric glue to the patch and place it behind the hole. Press it flat and smooth.

  12. Allow it to dry completely before using the cushion.

  13. Next, open the cushion cover using the zipper. Remove the old foam carefully. Check its size and thickness so you can buy the correct replacement.

  14. Buy new foam from a local shop. Choose high-density foam if you want firm seating. Choose soft foam if you prefer a soft cushion.

  15. After that, insert the new foam inside the cover properly. Push the foam into all corners so the cushion looks even. Close the zipper tightly.

  16. Check if the cushion feels lumpy or uneven. Open the cover again if needed. Use your hands to spread the filling evenly. Press gently on hard or uneven areas.

  17. Add a thin layer of cotton batting on top of the filling if the cushion feels thin. This gives extra comfort and a better shape.

  18. Finally, rotate and flip the cushions every few weeks. This prevents one side from becoming flat.

Always, try to keep your pets away from the sofa, otherwise they will damage the entire sofa itself. Wash the cushion covers regularly as per instructions to keep them clean and fresh.
