It is usually advised to use a mix of scraping, sanding, and skim coating to remove paint from textured walls. I came to know this when I hired the painter to do the task. I observed the steps on how to remove texture from walls that is painted he followed. For your reference, I have shared the detailed steps below.

How to Remove Texture from a Wall?

Here are the steps the professional painter performed to remove the texture from a wall.

  • He scraped off as much of the high, sharp edges of the flaking paint as he could with a drywall knife.

  • He then used coarse sandpaper to sand down the wall.

  • Then applied two coats of skim coat after combining the joint compound with water.

  • Now, he smoothed the coat with a drywall knife.

  • Before applying the next layer, he let the previous one completely dry.

  • After cleaning and priming the wall, he sanded it once more using finer sandpaper.

  • Finally, he applied the color of my choice to the walls.

I hope you found this helpful.
