Here are the basic steps I came across to clean the soot from the walls.
Use drop cloths to cover the floor and a HEPA vacuum with an upholstery attachment to remove loose soot particles.
You must use a dry cleaning sponge or Magic Eraser to lift soot from walls.
Now, combine baking soda and a little water to make a paste.
Apply it on the soot, allow it to sit, and then use a moist towel to clean it off.
If there is significant soot damage, think about using a stain-blocking primer to touch up or repaint the affected areas.
