I first checked for any debris that might be causing the smell, used an AC odour neutraliser and made a solution for mould removal.

Here are a few ways to remove musty smell from your AC:

1. One of the reasons for a bad smell can be debris in the unit. At times, leaves, insects or other debris remain stuck inside the unit and lead to bad odour over time. You’ll have to check the unit and remove anything of this sort.

2. You can use AC odour neutralisers specially made to help remove persistent smells and disinfect the AC unit.

3. In case the smell is because of mould, clean the evaporator coils of the AC, along with the blower motor and other parts. Use a solution of warm water and mild detergent. If the mould is tough to clean, mix bleach and water in a ratio of 1:4 and clean with it.

  He said we could also cut up oranges or lemons and leave them near the vents. The fresh citrus scent will combat the musty smell.

• Use Baking Soda:

  The last tip he gave us was to sprinkle baking soda on a damp cloth and wipe down the inside of the air conditioner unit. Baking soda is a natural odour absorber that will leave your air smelling fresh and clean.
