Hi Mayank. My wooden almirah got infected with mould a couple of weeks back. To overcome further damage, I removed the mould with the help of a friend. So, I can share how to remove mold from wood furniture with you. I used a mixture of bleach to treat mould deep inside, along with other cleaning agents. Let me share the method with you.

How to Clean Mold Off Wood Furniture?

Here is how you can remove mould from your furniture:

  1. Begin by wearing protective clothing and gear. Use face masks, goggles and gloves. Coming in contact with mould isn’t a joke, so you need to take this seriously.

  2. Keep the wooden furniture outside in direct sunlight with the help of a friend or family member.

  3. Use a vacuum cleaner to clean the furniture well. Ensure the vacuum cleaner has a High-Efficiency Particulate Air filter, also known as a HEPA filter. This will help remove loose spores and dirt. The vacuumed material should go into a sealed plastic bag.

  4. Mix 1 teaspoon of dishwasher soap into a spray bottle filled with warm water and shake well.

  5. Apply this solution over the affected area and use a soft-bristled brush to scrub the mould gently.

  6. If the mould has penetrated the wood, you will require a stronger solution to kill spores underneath the surface. Use a bleach solution by mixing detergent soap, bleach and warm water.

  7. Pour the solution over the mould and scrub with a sponge. Let the area air-dry.

  8. Use a 100-grit sandpaper to sand the area. This helps in reaching mould deep into the wooden furniture. Sand slowly till you see no signs of mould growth.

  9. Once sanded, refinish the surface to bring back the shine and overcome the chances of future outbreaks.

  10. Throw away all the rags and anything that came in contact with the mould.

I will conclude my answer here. I

believe you now know how to get rid of mold on wood furniture.

Hello there. I have a wooden study table that caught a lot of mould a few months ago. I hadn’t used the table much and kept it in a corner. The mould had taken up a lot of space and I wanted to remove it immediately. I asked my father for help regarding how to clean mold off wood furniture. We both cleaned the mould and I was able to use the table after that. We used a mild detergent and water as the cleaning agent. I am describing the process below.

How to Get Mold Off Wood Furniture?

  1. Wear a long-sleeved shirt and long pants. Cover your face with a N-95 mask and also wear rubber gloves. Wear safety goggles that don’t come with ventilation holes to protect yourself.

  2. Start by opening the doors and windows to ventilate the room.

  3. Make a solution of water and mild dishwasher detergent. Take a sponge and apply the solution over the mouldy surface. You don’t have to saturate the furniture because that can deteriorate the situation.

  4. Get rid of all the mould with your sponge. You can also use a brush. Take a damp and clean cloth to wipe away any remaining mould particles. Don’t rinse and also restrict the spores from coming in contact with the non-mouldy areas as the mould can spread further.

  5. Let the wood dry completely. Even if there’s some mould remaining, try again after the surface has dried. Use a fan to reduce the drying time.

  6. You can also use white vinegar to remove mould if the detergent doesn’t completely work. You’ll have to dilute the vinegar before use.

  7. If the mould is still present, you can sand the surface. Wait till the wood is dry to sand. Also, there is a risk of placing mould spores in the air, so wear protective eye gear and have a vacuum cleaner handy to remove sawdust. The wood surface should be free from mould before you refinish it.

  8. Disposing of the mould is important as not doing so properly can lead to the growth of mould and spoil the complete process regarding how to get rid of mold on wood furniture.

  9. Bag up all the mould and throw them into the garbage. Wash the clothes you wore separately.

  10. After the cleaned area has dried, vacuum the floor and wipe down other regions to remove any present mould spores.

This is how to clean mold off wood furniture. I hope it helps.
