When I checked my water tank for the first time, I noticed algae inside. I didn’t know how to clean algae from water tank. So I did some research online and discovered two methods for cleaning a water tank: one using bleach and the other using chlorine. I have added the cleaning process for both methods I came across to give you a better idea.

How to Keep Algae Out of Water Trough?

Here are a few easy tricks I found to stop algae from growing in a water tank.

  1. Using Bleach: During my research, I found that using just a little bleach, about a half-teaspoon of 5.25 percent bleach per gallon of water. It helps kill the bacteria that algae feed on and keeps the tank cleaner for longer.

  2. Using Chlorine: Chlorine is also a powerful way to kill algae. I learned that you only need a tiny amount, about 4 drops of chlorine for every 1,000,000 drops of water. It turns into a mild acid in the water that helps break down the algae, and it’s safe as long as you use it properly.

Additionally, I found out algae need sunlight to grow, and it is important to use a tank that doesn’t let any light in. I used bleach, and it worked. But I think it’s better to hire a professional to clean it.
