How to Paint Wood Windows Interior?

Hey Jahan. Painting window frames isn’t as tricky a it looks. Half the work is preparing the window for painting. It will take time, but you can learn how to paint interior wooden window frames and do the job with patience. I recently painted a wooden window frame and can share exactly how I did it.

Method to Paint Interiors of Wooden Windows

1. Start by getting rid of chipped and loose paint on the window. Scrape away larger bits with a decorator’s knife. You can then use a fine-grit sanding block or a sandpaper to smooth the areas. 

2. For areas with old paint still in good condition, you will require scuffing and buffing it up to free the surface of any gloss or shine. 

3. Wash your window with a microfibre cloth so that all sanding dust is removed and your frame is dust and dirt-free. Use a clean and dry cloth to wipe the surface dry.

4. If the wifnow has any imperfections like holes and cracks, use some wood filler and apply it in those areas as per the manufacturer’s guidelines. 

5. Once dry, sand down the holes and cracks filled with filler to make an even surface. 

6. Wash and dry the windows to remove any sanding particles. 

7. If you notice gaps between the edge ofthe window frame and the walls or at other regions, apply a flexible silicone made for windows in these gaps.

8. You can then apply a coat of primer evenly over the window. Let it dry completely.

9. Apply a water based paint suitable for windows as per your preference. Apply at least two even coats and wait for the previous coat to dry before applying the next coat.

• Starting at the top, paint the inside of the window frame. Tap off extra paint by pressing it against the bucket's interior wall to stop drips. Keeping neat lines and a polished finish can be greatly improved by following this easy advice.

• Reload the brush as needed to retain a wet edge and keep painting until the inside frame is finished. This method guarantees an even coat and lessens the likelihood of obvious brush marks. 

• After finishing, wait for the paint to completely dry before adding another coat, if necessary.

•  Before opening and closing a freshly painted window or door, give it time to completely dry.
