Hello Karan. I’d be able to help you with the process for painting PVC pipe. Well, a lot of things have to be done and the most important one is the preparation. You will have to clean the pipe well to ensure the surface is good to paint on. I sanded and did a few other things before finally painting the PVC pipe. You can know exactly what I did below.
How do you Paint PVC Pipe?
You should first cut at the necessary places for the PVC pipe segments. It gets easier to work with smaller-sized pips rather than larger ones.
Then, clean the pipe using an ammonia-based cleaner like a window cleaner to get rid of grease, dirt and other surface debris.
Lightly scuff the surface of the PVC pipe with a fine grit 200 to 300 grit sandpaper. Wrap the sandpaper in a cylindrical shape around the pipe and move it back and forth.
Once you are done sanding, the PVC surface should be dull and or matte and must not have any gloss or shine to it.
Wipe off the excess material that may have been left behind on the PVC pipe by the sanding process with a wet cloth.
Keep an old cardboard box against a wall and lean the pipe against the cardboard in a garage or basement, which is well-ventilated
Next, you must spray the surface lightly with as side to side or up and down motion. Apply thin coats over time and give a curing time of 5 minutes between layers of paint/
Repeat the coats till the complete surface is painted.
This is all you need to do.

I recently made a new drainage line in the exterior of my house using a PVC pipe. However, the colour of the PVC pipes was interfering with the colour of the exterior wall. Because of this, I decided to get them painted. Now the question arises, how to paint PVC pipe. I figured that before anything, I needed to sand the PVC Pipe to prepare a smooth surface for the paint. Here are the details for the steps that I followed next.
How Do I Paint PVC Pipe?
I decided that the easiest way to paint the PVC pipe would be to use spray paint. o prepare the pipe before painting it, I did the following:
I selected a sandpaper with a grit of 220 to sand the PVC pipe. You can use a sandpaper of higher grit as well..
The next step was to use a damp cloth to clean the surface of the Pipe.
After that, I had to pick a plastic-rated spray paint. Remember to shake it well before use.
Following that, I started spraying the pipe slowly and steadily.
I had to wait for 20 - 30 minutes for the paint to dry before applying the next coat.
That’s it. This is all you need to do to paint the PVC pipe. I hope you have your answer now about how do you paint PVC pipe.

How to Paint PVC Pipe to Look Like Wood
Things RequiredPVC pipe
Fine-grit sandpaper
Foam brush
Wood stain
Paper towel or Rag
Hot gun
Protection gloves
Sharp, thin knife/Wood file
First, you’ll have to sand the PVC pipe gently to ensure a smooth, matte surface. After that, use a wood file or a sharp knife to cut tiny grooves and craves. Next, sand the pipe one more time using a light hand. Now, the pipe’s surface will look like real wood.
Now, you have to stain the PVC pipe with wood stain. I suggest you wear protective gloves to prevent your hands from getting stained. Use a foam brush to apply a layer of stain and wipe it off with a paper towel or a clean rag. Keep staining the pipe until you get your preferred colour. Allow it to dry well.
It’s time to add the final touch! Hang the PVC pipe on an appropriate wooden stick in a way that you can burn the edges of the pipe using a hot gun. Bend the softened edges gently so that they look like wood’s natural shape.
