Hey there, let me help you out with how to paint ombre wall with sponge. I have painted the living room wall in the ombre style and well it looks beautiful. Using a sponge for this works very well as it blends the three shades extremely well. The process is lengthy and you will have to show patience. But trust me, the result is worth the time.
Steps to Paint Ombre Wall Using Sponge
Begin by preparing your surface. Clean it well by wiping away dust and any other unwanted particles. Wash well with a dish soap and water solution and rinse with water. Also, fill in any holes and or cracks with wall putty.
After preparing the wall, section it off from the rest of the walls with decorating tape. In case you are painting over a dark wall, I suggest you apply one coat of the lightest colour as the base.
Next, measure the wall and divide it into 3 equal sections horizontally by marking with a pencil or chalk.
Pour out the 3 colours into separate trays and with a wide emulsion brush or roller, apply the first colour.
To make a smooth colour transition, I would say you keep the 3 shades as close to each other as possible.
Paint the lightest colour from the top of the wall, cutting in the edges of the wall with a wide emulsion brush first. Then, work downwards with your roller till you get to approximately an inch away from your pencil line.
Do this step again for the middle section with you in between shades of paint, starting at the top of the section and again working down until you are around 1 inch away from the second pencil line.
For the darkest colour, begin at the bottom of the wall and work upwards until you reach your middle section.
Mix a bit of the light and medium shades together and grab the sponge.
Cut the large sponge in half, and use 1 half to add your light or medium mixed paint to the unpainted section of your wall. Then, pick up more of your light paint with the other half of the sponge and blend the top section down into light or medium mixed paint.
Use the first sponge to pick up the blending where you’ve finished above, lightly blending down into the medium point section.
Repeat the above process for the other transition, but with the medium and dark shades this time.
Remove the tape and let the wall dry completely.
This is all. I hope this helps.
