When it comes to how to paint metal outdoor furniture, you just need a couple of things and you can paint it yourself. Quite recently, I have painted two metal chairs in my backyard. Since it's in the backyard, there was an algae deposit on it and to remove it I used TSP (Trisodium Phosphate), which is great for cleaning and removing heavy deposits over it. Next, I used a cloth to dry it. There was some residue of the old paint as well, which I removed with sandpaper.

This was how I prepared my metal chairs for painting. After that, I followed the below steps to paint the furniture.

  • First of all, I prepared the area for painting. For that, I placed a couple of old cupboards under the chairs and added a shade over it.

  • Next, I used a paintbrush to apply a primer on the chairs and left it to dry.

  • When the primer was dry enough, I started painting them.

  • I applied the first coat of paint and left it out to dry before applying the second.

And that’s how to repaint metal patio furniture. If you are not familiar with painting techniques, I would recommend you hire a professional painter for the job. A friend of mine had hired a painter through
