Hello Vinod. I will be able to help you out with how to paint kitchen cabinets with chalk paint. We recently got our cabinets painted with chalk paint. For this, there is some preparation to be made before you actually get to the painting part. Let me share the complete steps for painting the cabinets.

Painting Kitchen Cabinets with Chalk Paint

  1. Remove the doors and any other hardware from the cabinets.

  2. Next, give the doors a wash with soapy water.

  3. After this, paint the cabinet with the chalk paint using a flat brush for a smooth finish.

  4. Leave to dry before painting a second coat of chalk paint.

  5. Once the paint is dry, wax the doors using clear chalk paint wax and a chalk paint wax brush.

  6. Remove any excess with a lint free cloth.

  7. Let the wax harden before applying another coat, for at least a day. Wax 2-3 times to ensure your finish is strong.

  8. If you want a polished finish, leave it overnight before you buff the wax with a cotton cloth.

  9. After the wax has dried, install the doors back in place.

I hope you know how to chalk paint kitchen cabinets.

A few months ago, I noticed that my kitchen cabinets needed a makeover because their paint was fading, so I decided to give chalk paint a try. I had heard that it’s very easy to use and gives a beautiful matte finish. But when I looked it up online, I saw that a lot of people like me were confused on how to paint kitchen cupboards with chalk paint because all chalk paint is not water resistant. So, I did a little more research and came across the easiest process which I shared below.

How to Chalk Paint Kitchen Cabinets?

Here is the process I came across and followed to chalk paint my cabinets in the kitchen:

  • Firstly, I cleaned all the cabinets thoroughly in order to get rid of any grease or dirt. It would prevent the paint from adhering properly. I used a degreasing cleaner to do so.

  • I then took out all of the cabinet hardware and doors. I was able to get a nice finish on the edges and painting became much easier as a result.

  • I went with a traditional white chalk paint as I saw in a video online. Its thick and creamy consistency gave great coverage.

  • I painted the cabinet frames with an angled brush and the flat surfaces with a tiny foam roller. The paint went on smoothly and didn't drip or leave brush marks.

  • Once I was done painting, I left it to dry.

  • I then used a wax brush to apply two layers of clear wax after the paint had set. The paint is given a nice glossy effect and protection from the wax.

  • I finally put the doors and hardware back on. It was quite the makeover.

I was really happy with how my chalk-painted cabinets turned out overall. The results were amazing. Those clean white cabinets gave my kitchen a whole new look. Sometimes for regular cleaning I wipe it down with a wet cloth, yet the paint has remained intact. I hope you get an idea of how to paint kitchen cabinets with chalk paint.
