2. If there’s any wood that’s too damaged or rotten, it’s better to replace those parts instead of trying to fix them.

3. Then, he advised using a paintable caulk to seal any gaps or joints. This helps keep out moisture and insects, and it also creates a smooth surface for the paint to stick to.

4. After that, scrape off any loose or peeling paint using a paint scraper. This is important because it allows the new paint to stick better. Once the old paint is removed, you should sand everything down again to make sure it’s smooth.

5. Before painting, you should apply a coat of primer. Primer helps the paint adhere better and also protects the wood from the weather. It’s important to let the primer dry completely.

6. Finally, you can paint the trim using exterior paint. He recommended applying two coats to make the paint job last longer and look better.

How to Paint Exterior House Trim?

Below, you can find the steps to paint the exterior trim of your house:

Fascia

1. Let us begin with the fascia. Pour thoroughly mixed paint into a bucket and dip a nylon or polyester brush into it.

2. Cut in along the edge where the roofline and the fascia meet and/or where the wall and fascia meet using the brush.

3. Begin at an upper corner and use your roller to paint the fascia board. 

4. Continue to work into the cut-in region with your roller until the fascia board is complete.

Door Frame

1. For the door frame, begin at the top and paint the inside of the frame.

2. Continue till the frame is finished. Wipe away any extra paint that has been painted over the trim.

Door Trim

1. Start at the top corner of the trim and paint along the side edge of the trim where it comes in contact with the wall.

2. Continue till all the side edges of the trim are finished. 

3. Return to the top of the door trim and begin painting the trim’s face.

4. Continue the work till the door trim is finished.
