1. Cut a length of string from a wool ball. Use this thread to attach keys to the end.

2. Take this string and tape the free end to the top side of the wall. Ensure the string is in a straight line.

3. Run chalk on the side of the string touching the wall.

4. Now, pull and release the string to leave a guide marking.

5. Remove the string and then mask the guide line created with a masking tape.

6. Use the same technique to create a vertical line on the other side, depending on the thickness of the arch you desire.

7. Measure the gap between the two lines and mark the middle.

8. Cut another string and attach a pencil. 

9. Pin this string in the middle as per the marking so that the pencil suspends freely.

10. Take the pencil and lift it. Draw a semicircle with it by joining the top portions of the two vertical lines.

11. You can then paint the inside portion to finish the arch.

So, I will be able to tell you how to paint an arch shape on a wall. You would need a few tools to create a flawless arch easily. How to Paint an Arch Shape on a Wall?

Below you can find the process I followed to create an arch on my bedroom wall:

1. The first step is to measure the point where the straight edges of the archway will be present. 

2. While measuring, see how far you wish to leave black on either side of the straight edge and how high you want the straight edges to go before starting the curved part of the arch.

3. After you get the width of your archway, cut it in half. This will be the radius you will use to draw the arch.

4. Move the laser level to the centre of the arch. Determine the height of the actual curved portion of the arch.

5. Ensure you also take the measurement of the half-width i.e. the radius into consideration. This will tell you the tallness of the curved path of the arch.

6. Hence, make sure not to position the beginning of the arch too high. 

7. After getting the start part of the curved portion, add push pins at the centre of this measurement.

8. Move the laser level to one side of the archway and add the frogtape straight down. Repeat on the other side of the arch. These will be the boundaries for the straight areas of the arch.  

9. Use the plastic credit card to run over the top of the tape to ensure it adheres completely.

10. Tie a string to your push pin and attach a pencil to the other side of the string the same distance as the arch’s radius.

11. Align the laser level with the push pin to know the start and end points. Begin the arch where the wall meets the tape to create the straight edge and circular portion seamlessly.

12. Grab your paint and angled paintbrush to paint the arch from the inside.

How to Paint an Arch on the Wall?

Here is how you can paint an arch:

1. Start by tracing the shape of the arch on your wall. Use the straight edge to pencil on the outside vertical lines of the arch.

2. With the measuring tape, ensure the size and level of the arch are right. Join both the vertical lines to each other to make a curve at the arch’s top. You can do so by measuring and marking the exact centre point between the two arch edges. 

3. Measure the distance from the arch’s centre to the edge and cut a string of the length with an extra two inches. Take the string and attach it to the pencil. Tape the other end to the wall at the centre or midpoint of the arch. 

4. Take the string taut and rotate it from one edge to the other. Mark the wall with your pencil simultaneously. With this, you will be having an even semicircle that will make the top of the arch in the process of how to paint an arch shape on a wall.

5. Apply painter’s tape over the arch shape. Place a drop cloth on the floor to safeguard it against paint splatters. 

6. Use your paintbrush and begin painting the edge of the arch first. Then, switch to the roller to paint the inside of the arch.

7. Let the first coat completely dry before moving to the next. Remove the painter’s tape, once you’re finished painting all the coats.
