As Diwali is approaching, I am planning to repaint my living room walls to give it a fresh and festive look. So, how to paint a wall that is already painted? I know the task is quite tedious so I am planning to hire a professional painter. If a painted wall is smooth, clean, and free of flaws or damage, you can paint over it straight away. Additionally, the same sort of paint must be used for repainting, and the old and new coats of paint must have the same colour.

How to Paint a Already Painted Wall?

  1. Use water and a light detergent to get rid of dust, grime, and oil. After rinsing, let it dry.

  2. Use wall filler or putty to patch in dents, gaps, and cracks. For a smooth finish, sand the areas that have been mended.

  3. To improve the adhesion of the new paint, lightly sand the old paint. Before painting a wall, removing old paint can help the fresh coat of paint adhere correctly and accurately portray the colour shade that was selected.

  4. In particular, if you are going from a darker colour to a lighter shade or from a higher sheen to a lower sheen, the old paint must be removed.

  5. If the old paint was glossy or dark, use an appropriate primer.

  6. Apply two to three layers of paint, providing adequate drying time in between.

Following these steps ensures a smooth finish on your walls.
