Hello Shravan. I can tell you how to pack plates for moving house. We were moving out of our rental home in Bangalore a few weeks ago and had a lot of cutlery to pack. We had various kinds and packing them carefully was important to avoid damage. I took help from a friend to make the job easier. You can find the steps below.
How to Wrap Plates for Moving?
Here is how you can pack your plates for shifting:
Begin by placing a stack of packing paper or newsprint on the work area. The sheets need to be large enough to accommodate the dishes you must pack.
Then, keep the first plate in the centre of the top sheet and fold one corner over the plate till it is completely covered.
Grab the second plate and place it on top of the first one. Wrap the remaining three corners of the plain newsprint sheet over the second plate.
Use packing tape to secure the newsprint. Place the two plates in the box on their sides. Plates should never be packed flat, as this can cause breaking.
If the box encounters any force, plates on its edge can have much more pressure than if laid flat on the bottom of the box.
Continue to wrap and place the dishes in the box until the box is tightly packed.
If room remains in the box, place linens or towels on top of the plates or use more ball-shaped paper to cover the gaps before sealing the box.
Secure the box closed with strong packing tape. Label the box as fragile and list the items on the outside and their location, like “kitchen” or “dining room”.
This is all.

When we moved to our rented house last month, I packed all the dishes by myself. My mother and sister also helped me here. So, if you’re worried about packing your crockery, I can assure you that it’s a cakewalk. You just have to be a little careful. I have shared with you a detailed guide on
how to pack dinner plates for moving.
How to Pack Plates and Bowls for Moving?
Before you begin, keep all the required materials handy, such as bubble wraps, packing tapes, and papers. Then, prepare the boxes you want to keep your items in. Then, you can follow the below steps.
Place a stack of packing or newsprint papers on a table and keep the first plate in the centre of the top sheet. Then, fold one corner over the plate until the plate is completely covered.
Then, place the next plate on top of the first one and wrap the remaining three corners of the newsprint paper over the second plate. You can repeat the same for the bowls as well.
Once you’re done packing and securing the papers with extra tapes, place them inside the box on their sides. Don’t place them on the bottom as it can lead to breaking.
Then, place some towels over the packed plates to fill the gaps and for additional protection.
As a final step, add a label of ‘Fragile’ on the box.
How to Pack Cups and Glasses?
In the case of cups and glasses, I always prefer individually wrapping each item with a newsprint paper.
Then, I put the heaviest item on the bottom but before that, always place some towels or linens at the bottom as a cushion.
Once you’re done, pack the box in the same way, by adding tapes, and mark it as ‘Fragile’ or ‘Handle with Care’.
So, this is how I pack my crockery. I hope this answer will give you an idea on how to pack plates and cups for moving. If you find it too complicated, you can always hire professional packers and movers for the job.

- Purchase the right packing supplies:
To wrap your plates and china crockery you will need the right packing supplies;
Bubble wrap
Packing paper
Tape gun, or packing tape
A marker
- Get the boxes ready:
To keep the boxes from breaking, add more tape to reinforce the bottoms of the boxes. Select suitable-sized boxes to fit your dishes without piling them up.
- Wrap Every Item:
First, wrap each plate separately. Wrap each piece in multiple layers of packing paper if you're using it. Use bubble wrap to give fragile goods extra protection.
Focus on covering the entire surface of the crockery to protect it from scratches and chips.
- Inflate the Box:
Place a layer of packing paper or bubble wrap at the bottom of the box to create a cushioning layer.
- Pack Wisely:
To avoid crushing, place heavy goods in the bottom of the box and lighter items on top. Plates should be stacked vertically to reduce the chance of breaking.
- Label the box:
Clearly label each box as "Fragile" and indicate which side is up. This will alert movers to handle the box with care.
- Transportation:
Be careful not to put heavy objects on top of fragile boxes when loading the boxes into a moving van.
By following these steps on how to wrap crockery for moving, you can ensure that your crockery arrives at your new location safely and intact.
