Summary
To prevent books from becoming overly heavy while packing them for relocation, start by selecting small, robust boxes. Line the bottom with packing paper to provide cushioning. Arrange books according to size by putting the heavier ones at the bottom, either flat or standing vertically. Fill in any empty spaces with soft paper or fabric. Wrap out books that are delicate or precious separately with bubble wrap. Close the openings of the box and securely seal it with strong tape.

Hey there. I came across you asking how to pack books for moving and I would be able to help with it. I have quite a lot of books as I like to read whenever I get the time. When I last moved house this year, in April, I packed the books myself. So I do know a bit about packing books and am sharing the method I followed.

How do I Pack Books for Moving?

  1. Get sturdy and small boxes. The idea is to place enough books in each box so each box can be carried without much trouble, given the manageable weight.

  2. Place a protective layer of paper on the bottom of the box.

  3. Then place the books either standing vertically or stacked flat. Ensure the sizes of the books are the same or similar to overcome shifting and damage.

  4. After this, fill in any empty spaces with crushed paper.

  5. Add another protective layer of paper on the top of the box.

  6. Close the openings of the box and tape them.

This is all. I hope this helps.

You would never know how many books you own and would keep wanting more, unless you have to move places. It’s quite challenging especially when you've built a collection over the years. During my college, I had to move quite a bit, and I remember how difficult it was to pack my precious books. When I asked my seniors who had already gone through all of it how to pack books for moving house, they gave me some brilliant advice, which I shared below.

How to Pack Books When Moving House?

Here are the few advice I got from my seniors:

  • First, they suggested sorting my books into three piles: those I needed for studying, those I wanted for leisure, and those that were part of my collection. This made it easier to decide what to send home and what to

    keep with me.

  • As per their suggestion, I grabbed sturdy cardboard boxes and lined the insides with bubble wrap for extra protection.

  • I then carefully stacked my books, making sure to keep them upright, and added more wrapper on top to cushion them.

  • After that, they said sealing the box with packing tape was crucial. So, I packed them properly.

  • After packing, I sent the boxes with some of my belongings to my home with the help of NoBroker Movers.

I hope this helps you get an idea of how to move books when moving house.

How to Pack for A Move in 3 Days

I am an English literature postgraduate and I had a lot of books back in the day. I was studying at Delhi University and living in hostels. Unfortunately, I had to move quite a bit during my college days because of some issues. So packing books was one of the main concerns for me. I couldn’t let go off my books (I have a personal library in my study now so you can imagine). On the first occasion, I called my mom and asked her how to pack books for moving. She suggested that I should first divide them in batches. I had to make different piles - needed for studies, needed for leisure and needed for my collection. Once I did that she suggested I should courier the third lot back home. Anyway, this is what I did next:

Don’t worry about packing and moving. Let professionals at NoBroker take care of your belongings How to pack paperback books?

I have a lot of paperback books and hardcover books. I didn’t treat my books differently when it came to packing. Each pile was packed as if it was gonna get couriered. My mother suggested when I asked her how to pack books for courier, that I get a sturdy box made of hard cardboard.

  • After taking a hard cardboard box, place bubble wrap sheet carefully on all the sides and bottom of the box

  • The bubble wrap will help prevent damage in case moisture enters the box

  • Next, place the books carefully in a pile.

  • Once you are done, place a bubble wrap sheet on the top

  • Now carefully seal the box with brown tape

  • Note that there should be no point of tear or else the whole box will be damaged along with the books

After following these instructions, I sent one box home via courier. While the other 3 boxes (yes, there were 4 big boxes) were transported with other goods to my rental house. This is all I had for you on how to pack books for moving. You will have to dedicate time, effort and attention so that you goods don’t get damaged.
