Following the completion of your ITR, the income tax department processes your return and notifies you under section 143(1) of the Income Tax Act. They may send out a notification if they discover any irregularities in the ITR or suspect fraud or income misreporting. Those are usually password protected. However, there are many other tax-related files, which are secured. So, you know how to open password protected income tax file. You can get the solution below.
Steps to Open Password Protected Income Tax File
To open these files, a specific password format is used. Usually, for opening notices, you must enter your PAN number in lowercase, followed by your date of birth in DDMMYYYY format. I have shared the format to open different files in ITR.
For ITR-V (Acknowledgment Receipt):
Password = PAN (in lowercase) + Date of Birth (DDMMYYYY format)
Example: If PAN is ABCDE1234F and the Date of Birth is 15th August 1985, the password will be: abcde1234f15081985
For Form 26AS (Tax Credit Statement):
Password = Date of Birth or Date of Incorporation (DDMMYYYY format)
Example: 15081985 (for an individual born on 15th August 1985)
For Assessment Orders or Notices: Password = PAN (in lowercase) + Date of Incorporation/Date of Birth (DDMMYYYY format)
