As I turned my room, which had the dresser in place, into my office, I had to shift the dresser upstairs, all by myself. So I think I can help you with your question: How to move a dresser upstairs by yourself? And believe me, it reminded me of that classic Friends scene, but without Ross shouting "Pivot!" to direct me. There was a high stairway, the heavy dresser, and myself. What came next was a combination of planning and difficulty, but I managed.

How to Carry a Dresser Upstairs by Yourself?

  1. To make the dresser lighter, all of the clothes and drawers were removed.

  2. To make it easier to move the base around the floor, furniture sliders were used and positioned beneath it.

  3. Better control when pulling the dresser was provided by tying a strap around it.

  4. Carefully angled it to accommodate the staircase's tight bend.

  5. I took breaks to prevent fatigue by pausing on each landing.

  6. To prevent scratches on the floor, I used towels as a cushion and placed them below.

It was tough, but somehow, I managed to move it upstairs.

Hi there, I recently moved my dresser with the help of my friend along with other household furniture. So, I can show you how to move a dresser by yourself.

How to Move Dresser by Yourself?

  1. Start by arranging the dresser into smaller units. Do so with every part possible to easily remove. I removed the drawers and carried them separately, which helped in making the movement easier. Unscrew the legs off of the dresser and if possible, remove the mirror from the door too.

  2. Store the parts of the dresser in a bag and label it. For fragile items, wrap them in a bubble wrap first.

  3. Start making room for the dresser, such that no obstacle is present when you move the dresser. Check the pathway before you start shifting.

  4. Now, put plastic slides under the furniture by lifting either side of the dresser, one by one. If the dresser is long, you’ll need to place more than two slides under each leg or corner.

  5. Alternatively, you can place a soft rug underneath the dresser to slide it. Make sure that all four legs are above the rug.

  6. You can start sliding the dresser now. Do so from the centre of the dresser or the bottom. Take help from someone while you push it to ensure that the dresser does not topple.

  7. You can also use a dolly for moving the dresser if it is below your chest height. Once you reach the loading truck, use a ramp to move the dresser into the truck. It is a rule to place large items like dressers first and then surround them with soft furniture for support.

This is how to move a heavy dresser by yourself. I hope this helps.
