First Method

The usual method was to measure the length and width of the land in feet or metres, multiply them to find the area in square feet, and convert it to acres or hectares if needed.

Second Method

The second method was a geometric method. This method involves drawing the irregularly shaped land on graph paper and breaking it into simple shapes, like squares or triangles. You start with the biggest shape and work your way down to smaller ones, then calculate the area of each shape and add them up to find the total land area.

1. Area of Rectangle: Length × Breadth 

1. Area of Square: Length × Length 

1. Triangle Area = 1/2 Base Height 

1. Area of Trapezium: 0.5 × (L 1 + L 2) x Height

Using these formulas, you can calculate the correct area, and then add them up to find the total land area.
