Being associated with renovation and interior work, I can help you understand how to measure for panelling. However, you should hire a professional for this task as to achieve a flawless finish, precise measurements are essential. Even a minor error in judgment can result in uneven placement or material waste, which could affect the overall appearance. It includes calculating wall dimensions, taking openings like doors and windows into account, and figuring exactly how many panels are required.

How to Measure for Paneling?

  1. Measure the entire length of each wall and the height from the skirting board to the ceiling (or floor to ceiling in bathrooms). Measurements of sections should be taken and added together for longer walls.

  2. Deduct the height and breadth of any obstructions, such as windows or doors, from the total.

  3. To determine the actual paneling surface, subtract the total area of the apertures from the wall area.

  4. To determine how many panels you'll need and how to appropriately arrange them, divide the width of the remaining wall by the width of the panels you've selected.

These are the basic steps that need to be carried out to measure for panelling.

We decided to renovate our living room. After giving it a lot of thought, we finally went ahead with wall panels. After finalising the rest of the stuff, we had to measure our wall. A friend of mine who is a renovator helped with the task. So, I would be able to tell you how to measure for panelling. You would need some tools like a tape measure and a ladder. Let me describe the steps below.

How to Measure a Wall for Panelling?

Here are the steps you can follow:

  1. Begin by determining the start points. If you have a wall with skirting boards, measure from the top of the skirting to the ceiling. In washrooms, measure from the floor to the ceiling if the panels will go around a shower or bathing area.

  2. Take measurements at both the top and bottom of your wall, measuring width and height. Take the smaller measurements for regions with inconsistency to make sure of a snug fit.

  3. Now, measure the width and height of the doors, windows, and any other fixtures. Subtract their total area from the wall size.

  4. If you are panelling over several walls, measure each one of them separately, as there can be differences in the dimensions.

  5. Take notes of each measurement precisely and double-check for accuracy.

  6. With the measurements in hand, get the measurements for each panel and the math will guide you to the requirement of panels for the wall. (You can divide the width of the wall with the width of the panel.)

This is all I know. I hope you now understand how to measure for wall panelling.
