1. First, measure the length of the bowl. Remove the existing toilet seat and place the end of the measuring tape between the two bolt holes.

2. Then, you must measure the bolt spread. You can start from the centre of the left bolt hole and go to the centre of the right. The standard measurement should be 5.5 inches, but it was around 5.9 inches for us, so we had to look for specialty toilet seats.

3. Then, finally, measure the width of the toilet. This measurement usually varies according to brands.

What is the Standard Toilet Seat Size?

I have recently replaced my toilet seat. I would like to share my end-to-end experience about the same. I was unaware that there are numerous conventional toilet seat sizes because you don't shop for a toilet seat replacement every day. Hence, I took all of the necessary measurements before going to the home improvement store to ensure I have the right toilet seat.

Three points must be measured:

• Measure the distance between the bolts where the toilet seat attaches to the bowl. The typical measurement for toilet seat bolts is 5.5 inches

• At its widest point, measure the breadth of the bowl. To get an accurate measurement, place your measuring tape on the outside of the brim

• Between the seat bolts and the outside border of the front of the bowl, measure the length of the bowl. This measurement should be around 16.5 inches if you have a round bowl. The measurement for an elongated bowl should be roughly 18 to 18.5 inches

• You're ready to go to the hardware store now that you have your measurements. When you get there, you'll notice that there are a variety of toilet seat materials and styles to pick from

• High-impact polyethylene or plastic covering over composite wood are the most popular materials. There are a variety of colours and styles available, ranging from basic white to elegant black to vibrant prints and patterns. If you want to make a statement with your toilet, you have many alternatives

• Another typical toilet seat material is wood. Popular choices include natural wood, bamboo, and medium-density fiberboard. Because wood is naturally hygienic, the surface stays cleaner longer than a typical plastic toilet seat

However, if you don't dry the seat right away after cleaning it, it can get wet.

The final step is to install your new toilet seat after you've chosen and purchased it.

• Pry open the seat bolt caps with a screwdriver and unscrew the bolts to remove the old toilet seat. If they don't seem to be loosening, you may need to use one hand to support the nut on the toilet bowl's underside. Remove the bolts and raise the toilet seat off the toilet

• Prepare the new seat's surface as follows: Use a multipurpose cleanser to thoroughly clean the toilet bowl and the freshly exposed post holes

• Replace the toilet seat as follows: Push the seat bolts into the post holes after aligning them. Screw the nuts on loosely from the underside

• Tighten the nuts snugly after centering the seat on the bowl. Simply snap the bolt caps into place, and you're done!
