I live in a small 1BHK house in Bangalore, and it often feels too cramped. So I too started thinking: how to maximize space in a small house? While searching online for ideas, I found smart solutions like sofas that turn into beds, foldable dining tables with chairs, door-mounted storage and so on. These simple tricks really help to make a space much more comfortable and organised without spending too much.

How to Maximise Space in a Small House?

  1. You can opt for a sofa that can turn into a bed, as it works for sitting in the day and sleeping at night. This saves a lot of space.

  2. Foldable dining tables and chairs are smart options because you can open them only when needed.

  3. I also learned that corners can be used for shelves or small desks.

  4. Even the back of doors can hold storage hooks, and high shelves near the ceiling are perfect for things we don’t use daily.

These are some of the tips I found. I hope this helps!

I have very few spaces in my home, which constantly makes me feel claustrophobic and uneasy. I thus enquired about how to maximize space in small house from my friend who renovates homes. Upon inspecting my home, he provided me with some tips for small-space living that helped me make my cramped rooms comfortable and useful. You can adhere to the following advice if you too live in a small flat.

How to Maximize Space in a Small Apartment?

While making the most of the available space in a tiny house can be difficult, it is totally doable to create a roomy and useful area with the below ideas:

  • Donate or sell anything you no longer need or use to declutter and arrange your stuff.

  • Maximise your vertical space. You can do it by using creative storage options like floating shelves, hanging organisers, and under-bed storage bins.

  • In order to improve the flow of a tiny space, incorporate curved or rounded features.

  • Invest on multipurpose furniture pieces. Choose furniture, such as folding chairs or a drop-leaf dining table, that is simple to fold up or collapse when not in use.

  • Use furniture of light-colored, neutral paint to reflect light and create the illusion of more space.

  • Additionally, by carefully placing mirrors to reflect light and provide the impression of depth, you can visually enlarge the area.

By putting these tips into practice, I made the most of the space in my tiny home and furnished it with a more cosy and useful living area. I hope you got an idea of how to maximise space in a small house.

  • Go for furniture with exposed legs:

There is no point for beds or tables that are covered till the bottom. It just consumes space and may not even be used to store things. I would suggest you should go for exposed legs. It will give the impression of a spacious room just like that.

  • Mount things on the wall

: Be it your TV or mirror. It can hang on the wall. You don’t need to buy a panel or a dressing table to crowd a small room.

  • Install floating shelves:

Instead on buying cupboards, you can install floating shelves to put up your books, art pieces, set top box, etc.

  • Go for multifunctional furniture:

The best example is a sofa cum bed. You can save up a lot of floor space. It won’t look crowded. Just turn it into a bed and sleep peacefully at night.

  • Pick the right paint colour:

You might not realise this but paint on walls impact the look of a house. Go for neutral or light colours.
