I believe that a party is incomplete without fun party props. That’s why I made a giant mushroom decoration using recyclables for my Halloween last year. It was not difficult to make but it took a lot of time. Let me tell you how to make giant mushroom decorations:
Supplies Needed to Make Mushroom House Decor
Stack of newspapers
Large aluminium roast pan/tray
Two empty cylinder containers
Paper mache recipe – water and flour
Paint of your choice

Process: Decoration Mushroom
Turn the aluminium pan/tray upside down. Wad up newspapers and lay them on the “top” of the pan/tray (which is the bottom actually). I suggest you use masking tape to hold the newspaper in place.
Next, use duct tape to cover the top. The duct tape will hold all the newspaper together as well as help shape the top!
To make a paper mache solution, mix water and flour and water to create a paste that looks like thick cream. Stir until lumps disappear.
Dip strips of newspaper in this solution. Adhere to the mushroom’s top. Apply in layers till you get the shape of your choice. Allow it to dry thoroughly between a few layers.
Create the mushroom stem with two cylindrical containers stacked on top of each other. Use duct tape to hold them together in place.
Apply the solution to the stem in the same way as explained above.
Finally, paint the mushroom using the colour of your choice.
This is a great alternative to the ceramic garden mushroom decor.
