How to antique a mirror frame?
Before doing anything you should protect yourself. Wear goggles since you will be dealing with colours and chemicals. Use gloves if you have sensitive skin.
Cover the surface where you will be working with a thick sheet of plastic. You can also use a newspaper for the same.
Remove the mirror from the frame. Keep the mirror in a safe place.
Use a thick layer of paint stripper on the back of the mirror.
Take a plastic putty knife and remove the loosened paint.
Take a damp cloth and clean the surface.
Apply muriatic acid in a small portion in two or three areas.
Remove the muriatic acid. After removing the muriatic acid you will be able to find some spots. With a dry paper towel carefully blot the area. Do this very quickly as the muriatic acid starts reacting in seconds.
Paint the back of the mirror with gold spray paint.
Reassemble the mirror after you are done completing your work. And there you have it! You own a DIY antique mirror.
