From my experience, I must say consistent plant maintenance and routine general cleaning are necessary to keep a balcony garden tidy. This keeps the environment secure and welcoming. It also keeps pests away and preserves the health of the plants. Here is how to keep balcony garden clean.

  1. To prevent soil spills, place drip trays under each plant pot. You can also use pots with drainage holes.

  2. It will guarantee that there are no stains or moss growth and that water does not leak onto the balcony tiles.

  3. To minimise overflow, select somewhat larger trays.

  4. At least once a week, you must sweep the floor using a soft broom.

  5. Inspect your plants for pests regularly. Many bugs can be removed with a light water spray.

  6. For tough stains and to stop the formation of slick algae, especially during the rainy season, do a deeper scrub once a month. For this, you can use warm water and a mild detergent mixture.

  7. You can install plant shelves or raised wooden or metal stands. It will help you avoid water stains, and cleaning underneath is made simpler.

  8. Try using potting soil bags or cocopeat mix. They don't splash when you water them and are lighter and cleaner.

  9. To maintain balcony railings and furniture free of dust, wipe them down regularly.

  10. 60% to 70% of the mess in balcony gardens is caused by pigeons or other birds. You must install a pigeon net to keep your balcony area tidy.

  11. Store extra soil and a small cleaning kit on the balcony. Add a dustpan, a tiny broom, a microfiber cloth, and a spray bottle filled with water and soap.

  12. Make it a weekly routine to maintain your balcony garden. To promote more blooming, pinch off any dead blossoms. Cut back any stems that are too long.

Light pruning keeps plants healthy and minimises fallen debris. This is what I do for my balcony garden.
