For emphasising countertops and providing style and practicality, puck lights and light strips are ideal. So, how to install puck lights inside cabinets? To provide uniform illumination and a finished appearance, the layout and light placement must be planned before the installation begins.
How to Install Cabinet Puck Lights?
To finalise locations, place the power hub, wires, and lights on the countertop. Make sure the lights face the front of the cabinet and that the cords reach the outlet.
To attach the lights, twist off the mounting cap, drill shallow starter holes, mark the holes with a pencil, and screw the cap in place. Use a hole saw to drill a hole and insert wiring for recessed lighting.
Twist-and-lock lights onto mounting caps to connect and attach them. Plug in the main power cord, secure the power hub beneath the cabinet, and neatly route wires using cord clips.
To verify coverage and brightness, switch on the lights.
This will provide a neat, professional looking under cabinet lighting setup.

- Check the lighting layout by setting the power hub, wires, and lights in place on the countertop. Ensure your cables will reach the outlet with your lights positioned towards the cabinet’s front face.
- Twist the mounting cap off the lights and hold it in place on the cabinet’s underside. Use a pencil for marking the mounting holes.
- Drill narrow holes and position the mounting cap again, aligning the drilled holes with the mounting cap’s holes. Now, use screws to secure the mounting cap. To avoid drilling through the cabinet, measure the bottom cabinet’s thickness and mark a “stop point” on your drill bit using painter’s tape.
- For a recessed puck light, use a hole saw to drill a hole through cabinetry. Feed the wiring through the hole & use screws to secure the mounting cap in the hole.
- Attach the lights to mounting caps.
- Use screws for securing the power control under the upper cabinet. It’s the unit that will plug into the power outlet after the installation is completed.
- The next step is securing the power hub under the cabinet. Plug wires in after routing them to the hub. You may have to drill tiny holes in the cabinets to run the wires where they would be hidden.
- Use cord clips for securing the wires underneath the cabinets.
- Plug in the main power cord and turn on the lights.
