I recently planned to upgrade my kitchen, but the old sink setup was not fit for a dishwasher. The plumbing below the sink was also in poor condition. 1. The plumber started by removing all the old pipes and began to fix the plumbing for a double sink with a dishwasher. He used one-and-a-half-inch ABS pipes for everything. 

2. He added a coupling to connect the new pipes to the old drain line. Then, he connected the far sink bowl with a 90-degree elbow and the other sink bowl with a TY fitting.

3. Between the two sinks, he used either a straight pipe or a dishwasher Y-fitting. This Y-fitting helps to connect the dishwasher drain hose easily. 

4. He also kept this fitting slightly tilted backward, and toward the wall so the dishwasher hose attached easily.

5. He explained to me that all horizontal drain pipes should have a quarter-inch downward slope per foot, so water flows smoothly and doesn’t get stuck.

6. Then he worked on the P-trap. He used a straight pipe to check the correct height, lined it with the wall pipe, and used a union-type P-trap. 

7. He told me that union P-traps can be opened and cleaned easily, unlike glued ones.

8. The plumber also shared some simple tips: Never glue a P-trap. Always use a union type.

9. Make sure all pipes face the right direction, sloping downward. Never let the pipe go uphill, or the drainage won’t work.

10. After everything was fixed, he checked all the pipe joints to make sure there were no leaks.

11. One small thing I noticed inside the dishwasher Y-fitting, there was a plastic plug. He showed me how to remove it easily later by using PEX cutters and gently rocking it, not cutting it.
