Fix a 1x2 piece of wood to the top of your cabinets using wood glue and a nail gun. This gives a surface to attach the moulding, especially for frameless cabinets. Directly attaching moulding can block doors or make cabinets look smaller.
Use a mitre saw to cut the moulding at the right angle. Mark the cut line with a pencil first. Check the spring angle; common angles are 38 degrees, 45 degrees, and 52 degrees, and adjust your saw accordingly.
Use a ladder to reach the top of the cabinets. Nail the moulding to the pine board with a brad nailer, placing nails every 12 inches and at corners. For outside corners, use wood glue and tape overnight for extra strength.
Fill nail holes and seams with a paintable caulk. Sand smooth, then prime and paint or stain to match your cabinets. Make sure the colour matches so everything looks neat and professional.
