I planned to add a chimney to my new kitchen a month ago. However, the only available place was directly in front of the window. I was unsure whether it is allowed to install chimney in front of window. I asked one of the team members about the same. He said it is not advised to place kitchen chimneys immediately in front of windows. However, my kitchen layout only allows for this option, so they can make a few changes to install it. Here is what they did.
How to Install Chimney in Front of Window Easily?
Take accurate measurements. Ensure there is adequate space between the chimney and the cooking stove.
Connect a PVC or steel duct pipe from the chimney outlet.
To expel smoke outdoors, extend the duct sideways or over the window.
Now, use a metal plate to seal the openings surrounding the duct.
Above the window frame, drill a hole in the wall.
Fix the chimney and use sturdy wall plugs and screws.
Provide a suitable earthed electrical point close to the chimney.
You can utilise an air-recycling chimney that is filter-based (like a carbon filter) if ducting is not an option. But, ducted chimney is always best.
In short, if I say, you can put a chimney in front of a window as long as you reroute the duct above or laterally to provide for adequate ventilation.

It is popular to place a kitchen chimney in front of window in India. This will offer you more access to natural light while cooking. Make sure the window is away from the gas burner; else, the suction will be affected. As installing a chimney near a window requires careful planning, it is best that you hire a professional for the installation work.
How to Install Chimney in Front of Window?
Consider using a high-suction chimney to guarantee emissions are efficiently removed, especially since airflow near windows may interfere with appropriate exhaust.
To prevent smoke from re-entering the window, place the chimney slightly above it. Use a ducting pipe to divert odours upward or sideways, keeping them at least 12-24 inches away from the window.
To avoid leaks, seal all duct junctions with aluminum tape.
Install a cap on the exterior vent to prevent rain and debris from entering.
For optimal suction, there should be at least 6 to 8 feet of vertical ducting, with as few bends as possible.
I hope this helps!
