Summary
AC wire installation involves selecting the correct wire for load, shutting off main power, setting a dedicated MCB, routing wires safely in conduit, connecting Phase, Neutral, and Earth properly, linking indoor and outdoor units, securing connections, testing operation, and hiring a professional if unsure.

Here’s how to install AC wire;

  1. Select Appropriate AC Wire: Opt for a wire that matches the AC load requirements. For a 1 to 1.5 ton air conditioner, use 3 core copper cable. Typically, 2.5 sq mm wire is suitable for conventional split ACs, whereas 4 sq mm is advised for greater loads or longer runs.

  2. Disconnect the Main Power Source: Shut off the primary electricity supply at the MCB or main switch prior to commencing any wiring tasks. This safeguards against electric shock and protects the installer as well as the AC unit from harm.

  3. Set Up a Separate MCB: Allocate an individual MCB for the AC within the electrical distribution board. Choose a 20A or 25A MCB depending on the AC load. An MCB designed specifically guarantees safety during voltage changes and avoids overload conditions.

  4. Position the AC Wire Correctly: Extend the wire from the distribution panel to the indoor AC unit. Utilize PVC conduit or casing to shield the wire from heat, moisture, and physical harm. Steer clear of tight curves and ensure the wiring is distanced from water pipes

  5. Connect Phase, Neutral, and Earth: Open the AC terminal box and connect the wires correctly: Phase (Live) to L, Neutral to N, Earth to the grounding terminal. Ensure tight connections to avoid sparking or overheating. Proper earthing is essential for electrical safety.

  6. Link Indoor to Outdoor Unit: Utilise the specified interconnecting cable to connect the indoor unit with the outdoor unit. Align the wire numbers on both units precisely according to the wiring diagram provided by the AC manufacturer.

  7. Tighten all connections securely and apply insulation tape as needed. Fasten loose wires with clamps to avoid shifting or deterioration over time.

  8. Check the Link: Turn the power back on and activate the AC. Verify smooth operation at startup, consistent cooling, and ensure there are no sparks or strange noises

If you are unsure about wire size, load capacity, or earthing, hire a professional electrician. Correct AC wiring ensures safety, efficiency, and long-lasting performance.
