How to Install a Pet Door in a Wall?

Pet doors can be made by simply drilling onto the door and attaching a frame, or you can install the door in a wall. We did it through the wall, and here are some steps the carpenter took.

1. First, he measured the pet’s height and figured out the size of the door and frame. As mentioned by Harsh in the previous answer, you need to check your walls for wiring and plumbing as well.

2. Then, he marked the opening and cut through the wall using a saw.

3. Now you need to create a frame within the wall to support the door. Then, just cut through the exterior siding and sheathing.

4. To prevent water infiltration, he installed flashing.

5. Finally, he inserted the door tunnel and frame, securing it to the wall. Then, he also applied some caulk and weather stripping as well. This is for extra sealing.

Pet doors are the cutest thing ever. The good thing about pet doors is that they come in different shapes and sizes. I have a pet in my house and a few years ago I hired my carpenter to install a pet door. It is the most efficient Endura Flap ever. I will share with you how to install a pet door in home.

To install a pet door you will need

• Hammer

• Jigsaw

• Drill

• Screwdriver

• Pencil

• Drywall Screws

• Toggle Bolts

• Face Mask

• Safety Glasses

• Measuring Tape

To install entry door with pet door follow the step-by-step guide below:

• You need to ensure re-check the wall for electrical studs, and plumbing pipes. Draw a vertical line after situating the wall studs. It should be 10-12 inches above the ground.

• Take a measuring tape to measure the dog's shoulder. Mark the vertical line on the wall and mark a straight horizontal line.

• Now mark the lines by taking out a template.

• Place the template over the wall and trace the lines accordingly. 

• Take a drill and create holes on the corners and take a jigsaw to create the holes. After cutting out, place the frame and check if it fits. If it doesn't fit then trim it with the jigsaw again.

• Place the centre locator in the cutout and put the side of the door into the wall and use dry screws to hold it.

• Drill the market holes by removing the door from the wall.

• You can position the exterior frames after this.
