First, he drilled a thin pilot hole to guide the larger drill and kept everything precise.
Then he drilled the central hole, big enough for the barrel and washer. Since the lock was a bit short, he enlarged the hole from the back to make it fit.
He attached the washer with the points facing the wood and pressed it in firmly so it stayed secure.
Next, he inserted the barrel through the hole, placed the washer, and tightened the nut to hold the lock in place.
The latch needed a slight adjustment. Depending on the lock, it might be a quarter-turn or a half-turn. He bent it slightly outward so it would catch properly.
Finally, he tested it by closing the door, and the lock worked perfectly after the adjustment.
