Hello there. If you are wondering how to vent a first floor bathroom fan, I can help you out with it. The first step is to plan your vent path and then we get to the actual work. I will list everything below.
How to Install a Washroom Exhaust Fan on First Floor?
So, as you need to install the fan on the first floor, that means you will have to mount the fan on the side wall vent and not the roof.
Mark spot 2ft above the fan, avoid beams and pipes. Go for a 4-6 inch duct route.
Now turn off the power by flipping the bathroom breaker off. Test with a voltage tester.
Trace the fan housing template on the ceiling. Use a drywall saw or jigsaw to cut precisely. Also, clean the area properly to clear the dust.
After this, slide the fan body into the hole, and screw the adjustable brackets to the joists using a stud finder. Then secure tight.
Attach a 4 inch flexible aluminium duct to the fan outlet with metal tape. Snake horizontally to the exterior wall and avoid kinks.
Then, cut the wall hole by drilling the pilot from inside, finish with a 4 inch hole saw from outside. Fit the wall cap with the damper flap.
Push the duct out and seal joints with foil tape. Caulk the cap edges to make them waterproof.
Feed wires through housing grommets. Black to black (fan), white to white and ground green. Use wire nuts and tuck neatly.
Install grille and test. Snap cover on. Restore power and run for 10 minutes. Check the air suction and there should be no leaks.
I hope this helps.
