How Do You Install Floating Shelves Without Brackets?
Pick a solid wall and a solid wood shelf that complements the design of your space.
Use a stud finder to locate studs. Also, mark them with a pencil.
Instead of brackets, install concealed floating shelf rods or dowels. Once the shelf is in place, these supports are meant to be undetectable.
Make holes the same size as your floating shelf rods in the wall studs.
Drill holes in your wooden shelf's back edge that line up with the wall rods.
Mount the rods and secure them to the wall studs.
Finally, push the shelf onto the rods until it's flush with the wall.
Since I was sceptical of these steps, I later hired a carpenter, who also followed the methods I described. This trick kept the shelves sturdy and practical while giving my kids’ room a minimalist appearance.
