Hello there. Let me help you out with how to glue PVC pipe. So, see this is quite a lengthy and time taking process. Also, there is a level of expertise that is needed to properly glue the pipe, so if you haven’t handled PVC pipes before or similar work, I recommend you find a plumber instead of doing it yourself. Let me share the steps now.

Steps to Glue PVC Pipes

  1. Measure the length of the pipe to extend between the fittings and ensure it is correct.

  2. Mark the pipe to know where to make a cut. Make sure you compensate for the additional length that will be screwed or inserted into your fittings, if applicable.

  3. Next, you must cut the PVC pipe. For this, set up a vice, guide or clamp to hold the pipe in place. Line up the pipe so that your marking hangs off the table a couple of inches. You can then cut it on the marking.

  4. After cutting the pipe, you’ll see some jagged burrs along the rim of the PVC. You must remove these first.

  5. Take a utility knife and gently cut the burrs away. You can then use a file to quickly smooth the edges.

  6. Once you apply the PVC cement, there won’t be much time for adjustments. So, you must dry fit your pipes first to make sure they fit well.

  7. Arrange and fit all of your pipes and fittings together to check measurements and make changes as required.

  8. When you start to glue the pieces together, it can be tough to remember what direction the fittings go or how they should be positioned.

  9. While your PVC is connected with a dry fit, take a marker and draw a line from the fitting’s bottom to the top of the pipe. You’ll use these to align them again after applying the glue.

  10. Glueing can get messy, so lay a drop cloth on the work area to catch the solution if it drips.

  11. Apply an inch band of primer around the top exterior of the pipe and rotate the brush around the pipe thrice. Repeat this for the interior of the pipe.

  12. Apply the cement in the same way around the top exterior of the pipe and the interior.

  13. Insert your PVC into the fitting, but don’t align the markings yet. Start with the lines about a quarter turn apart.

  14. Then, twist to the line up the markings on the PVC pipe and fittings. Hold the pipe in position for 30 seconds to let the cement cure enough to hold in place.

I hope you now know how glue PVC pipe.
