Overwatering is most frequently the cause of gnats buzzing over houseplants or crawling in your potting soil. To get rid of these gnats, spray the plant with a light insecticide like neem oil or dish detergent diluted in warm water. Pour a cup of diluted bleach down the drain if you detect gnats around your kitchen sink or bathtub. Pour the cup of bleach carefully down each drain or garbage disposal until no more gnats are visible in your line of sight

Fill a candlestick halfway with water and place a candle inside. Turn off the lights and light the candle. The gnats will fly to the flame and either be burned or drowned if they fall into the water. This trap is obviously less practical than a wine or vinegar trap, and you'll have to remember to blow out the candle before sleeping
