Hi there. If you are struggling with how to fix wooden chair joints, I have the answer for you. See, the easiest fix for chair joints is to apply glue. This works when you catch the loose joint early on. However, if the joint is broken on your chair, then you will have to disassemble it and replace the dowels. I will share a detailed method below.

How to Fix Loose Wooden Chair Joints?

  1. You can, at times, use a mechanical fastener to fix the frame of the chair.

  2. If yours is an antique wooden chair, I wouldn’t recommend lowering its value with a piece of metal. So avoid this method in that case.

  3. Metal reinforcements work when the joint is tightly fitted together. So, ensure you glue the joints well and then you can use this method to tighten the firm joint.

  4. Fasten the braces with brass screws and ensure the screws are long enough.

  5. Fix the metal angle to one side of the chair frame, and predrill the screw holes.

  6. Next, insert a piece of thin cardboard under the opposite part of the angle, then drill the screw holes for that side.

  7. Drive in the screws fairly tightly, remove the cardboard and finish tightening the screws.

  8. After the screws are tightened, the angle will pull the joint tightly together to cover the gape left by the cardboard.

I hope this helps.
