I was pretty concerned when I discovered a puddle of water beside my toilet. I chose to have it fixed by a professional because I was not skilled in plumbing. However, that experience taught me what usually causes these leaks and how to fix toilet leaking from bottom. A worn-out wax gasket or loose bolts are often the cause of toilet leaks from the base.

How to Fix Water Leaking from Bottom of Toilet?

Though I hired a professional plumber to fix the leak. However, the basic steps that I learned were:

  1. To tighten the bolts, take off the base caps and use a wrench to uniformly tighten them. To avoid cracks, do not overtighten.

  2. Check the wax gasket; if it isn't working, you might have to take the toilet out and replace the wax ring that holds it to the floor.

  3. Cut off the water supply. Close the valve and empty the tank entirely before removing the toilet.

  4. Reinstall and test. To check for leaks, flush the toilet, reattach the water supply, and secure it in place.

These are a few repair tips that you can opt for. But if you are like me and not sure about the steps, it is best to hire a professional.
