I noticed recently that my kitchen tap was loose, so I hired a plumber to fix it. He started taking out his tools to begin the work. At that moment, I asked him how to fix a loose tap fitting. He told me the first step is to always turn off the water supply. Then he said he would disconnect the pipe, followed by several steps. I have added those fixing steps below.

How to Fix a Tap That is Loose?

Here are the step-by-step instructions to fix a loose tap.

  1. Always turn off the water supply first.

  2. Then he disconnected the pipe by using a spanner.

  3. He used a basin spanner to loosen the nut underneath that holds the tap in place.

  4. Before putting it back, he said it is important to clean around the hole and the bottom of the tap.

  5. He mentioned a new washer should be used under the tap to make a good seal.

  6. It is better to replace the plastic nut with a brass back nut, as it is much stronger and won’t come loose again.

  7. Then tightened the nut using a spanner and a bar.

  8. He ensured the washer in the pipe fitting was still good before reconnecting the water pipe.

  9. Finally, he said to turn the water back on and check for leaks.

These are the steps to fix a loose tap that my plumber explained to me. I hope this helps you.
