While cleaning my living room one day, I noticed the inner window sill had minor cracks, chipped paint, and even some swelling had occurred. I initially thought I should overlook it, but I didn't want the damage to spread. That's when I planned to hire a professional to fix it. He informed that it happened because of the rotten sill. I observed the process he followed and hence, shared the detailed steps on how to fix a window sill inside below for you.
How can I Fix an Interior Window Sill?
Inspect the damage. Verify whether there are minor cracks, surface scratches, or extensive moisture-induced decay.
Clear away any curtains, plants, or anything else close to the sill.
Now, scrape off any loose paint or wood with a putty knife.
Lightly sand the area.
Cut the caulk line on both sides of the casing if the sill is rotting. To do this, drag a razor knife from top to bottom.
Slowly pry up the sill using a chisel.
Trim a fresh sill board to the proper dimensions.
To install the wood board, use brad nails or nails.
This is the time to reattach any casing that you may have removed around the window.
In wood sections, use wood filler to fill and smooth all nail holes.
Repair drywall dents, and all the window frame and trim edges should be caulked.
Put a priming coat on and paint the sill to match the window frame.
As in my case, the carpenter told me that the window sills needed a complete replacement, and he followed these instructions. I suggest
hiring a professional to identify the causeand repair it accordingly.
