Hi, I discovered a problem with my shower faucet handle around one week ago. The handle had started spinning around, which made it difficult to use the shower. How to Repair a Shower Faucet Handle?

1. Fix a spinning shower faucet handle is to turn off the water supply. Apart from this, cover the bathroom drain to ensure that screws or any part of the shower do not get lost by going into the drain. 

2. Now, you’ll have to see where the handles are concerning the faucet cartridge. This will further determine whether you need to remove the handles or the cover plates. You can remove the handles by unscrewing them with your hands. But you’ll need a flathead screwdriver to remove the cover plate. The connecting screw may need a head screwdriver or an allen wrench.

3. You’ll find a locking nut after removing the handle. This nut safeguards the faucet cartridge. Take off this nut with a pipe wrench. You might find a small brass screw on top of the faucet cartridge. I would recommend you keep it, as replacement cartridges don’t come with a screw on many occasions.

4. After you have removed the locking nut, the faucet cartridge will come out. You can use a plier if you find it difficult to remove. In case you haven’t yet bought the new cartridge, take the old one to the hardware store and buy one that matches the size of the old one.

5. Place the new cartridge into its place in the shower faucet handle and work backwards to reassemble the shower handle. 

6. Lastly, turn on the water and check that the handle has stopped spinning.
