Last year, I observed a pool of water close to my inside air conditioner unit. I initially thought the leak was condensation, but it kept growing worse. After I called in a technician, he verified that the drain pan had rust damage and the AC drain line was plugged. He said that this is the major reason for AC drain pipe leakage. I closely observed the technician to fix the issue, so I can share the steps with you.
How to Fix if My AC Drain Pipe Leaking?
The steps that were followed:
At first he cleaned the pan, used a flashlight to spot cracks. You can seal them with a waterproof sealer. Since mine had rust, he had to replace it with the right-sized pan.
He switched off the AC, cleared standing water, then used a wire brush to scrub the pipe. Poured water through it to ensure it drained properly and flushed it with a diluted bleach solution to prevent mould.
He also added insulation around the ductwork to reduce condensation.
A dirty filter was affecting airflow and causing coil freezing. From my last years experience, I can say that most AC drain pipe leaks can be avoided with timely maintenance, adequate insulation, and routine cleaning. If in doubt, seek professional advice.
