Hello. The drawer of my cabinet was having issues with smooth movement. So, I decided to install new ball bearings to the drawer runners. I can thus help you with how to fit ball bearing drawer runners. If you have existing slides, they’ll need to be removed. To place the bearings well, markings will have to be made. How to Install Ball Bearing Drawer Slides?
Here is the process you can follow:
Remove the drawer carefully by pulling it out or unscrewing the slides.
Make markings for the installation points of slides using a pencil. Start from the inside of the cabinet and then corresponding points on the sides of the drawer.
Use a level to ensure the markings are straight.
Now, align the slide with the cabinet markings, place screws and check that the front edge sits right.
After you attach both sides, check the alignment to make sure they sit parallel.
Next, align the drawer slides with the cabinet-mounted slides. You need to insert the drawer at a slight angle and engage the ball bearings.
Push the drawer gently into the cabinet and ensure that the slides engage in a smooth motion. You must feel the bearings catching and guiding the drawer into its place.
Open and close the drawer a few times to ensure they slide smoothly.
Check that all screws are tight but don’t overdo them.
If you see that the drawer is not at level or doesn’t move smoothly, use shims to fix the position of the slides.
Apply a small amount of lubricant to the bearings to help with smooth movement.
Ensure that the drawer fits right with the cabinet’s front and has even gaps on both sides.
