Hello friend. A few weeks ago, when I attempted to reconnect a loose hinge on my cabinet door, I discovered that the screw holes had widened. The screws wouldn’t grip anymore, and the hinge dangled there. Instead of replacing the entire panel, I hired a professional carpenter to patch the holes and redrill them properly. I have shared the steps on how to fill holes in wood to redrill below for you.

How to Fill a Hole in Wood and Redrill?

  1. Take a small brush and start cleaning the hole.

  2. Select a dowel or a plug that fits tightly into the hole, and cut it with a cutter.

  3. Now, drill the current hole to the size of the new plug if you're using a pre-cut one.

  4. After that, cover both the plug and the interior of the hole with wood glue.

  5. Insert the plug into the opening.

  6. Finally, sand it flush with the wood surface. The hinge was securely fastened in place.

Alternatively, the carpenter said you can also use wood splints and glue or epoxy putty. It was a simple repair that saved me from replacing the entire cabinet door.
