I have a 15-year-old dining table at home, and recently I noticed some grooves on it. So, I called a carpenter to check. After looking at it, he asked me to buy wood filler material, and arranged the tools like sandpaper, a knife, and a few other things. I carefully observed how to fill grooves in dining table. The carpenter did the work properly, and it took two days for it to complete. Now the table looks neat and smooth again.
What are the Steps of Filling Grooves in a Dining Table?
First, he cleaned the cracks and grooves properly with the tip of a knife and removed all the dust and small particles.
Then he filled the gaps with wood filler, pressing it firmly inside using a putty knife.
He made sure the filler was tightly packed and left it slightly above the surface.
After that, the carpenter left the table like this for two days so that the filler could set properly.
When he came back and the filler had dried completely, he used fine sandpaper to smooth the surface and rubbed it lightly with steel wool, so that the repaired part matched the rest of the table.
In places where the table’s polish was damaged, he carefully blended the edges to make it look even.
After that, he applied some stain to match the table’s colour and then brushed on a thin coat of finish.
Once it dried, the carpenter gave a final light buff and polished the whole surface.
That’s it. Hope this helps you.
