Giving a rustic look to walls is pretty easy and is actually a DIY project. To create a rustic paint effect on walls, start with a warm, earthy base coat and let it dry completely. Then, use a sponge or dry brush to layer different shades unevenly, adding texture by mixing sand or plaster into the paint for a weathered look. Finally, lightly sand some areas to reveal the base coat and give it an aged effect. Here is a detailed process on how to do rustic paint on walls.

How to Paint Walls to Look Rustic?
Here is a simple method on how you can give a rustic look to your walls:
Start by preparing the wall, ensuring it is clean and dry, and then apply a base coat of beige, terracotta, or warm grey and let it dry completely.
Next, use a sponge, rag, or dry brush to layer darker and lighter shades, dabbing and blending unevenly to create a weathered effect.
You can also add texture by mixing a bit of sand or plaster into the paint and applying it in irregular strokes for a rough, aged look.
Once dry, lightly sand some areas to expose the base coat and enhance the rustic charm.
So this is how to paint a wall to look rustic. You can give it a try but if you have no expertise in painting, you better hire a professional painter.

Rustic paint textures can be expensive, but it could cost you zero in labour charges if you are ready to get your hands dirty. Recently, I painted a wall with a rustic look. Though it was not perfect, I am quite content with what I had done on my own after learning about it from a video. If you want to learn how to do rustic paint on walls, then you can follow the process I mentioned below.
How to Make Your Walls Look Rustic?
First of all, purchase the paint that you want to add to your walls. This is very important as we tend to spend quite a lot of time on that; well, I did that. After that, sand the entire area to remove debris and old finishes. Following that, wipe it down with a dry towel to clean the surface for staining. Here’s what you need to do next.
Choose a stain and paint colours and a finish. I would suggest choosing a satin polyurethane finish.
Next, use a staining pad to apply the stain in a wavy pattern and then blend edges with natural stain before it dries.
Apply medium stains using different pads and blend them into the dark stain. Allow this to dry for a minimum of 24 hours.
Now, use medium brushes to apply multiple accent colours in sections. You need to let this dry for at least 24 hours.
Following this, apply the main paint on the entire wall and let it dry for 24 hours.
Sand the surface lightly then wipe it clean.
After that, apply the satin polyurethane finish and let it cure for at least 24 hours.
And this is how to paint walls to look rustic. This requires DIY skill and if you are not confident in your skills hire a professional. Hope this helps.
