Hello. I can tell you how to do a simple havan at home. We keep having havan at our home without any priest. What we do is we first wake up early in the morning and take a bath first up. We perform our daily prayers and then get started with the preparations of the havan. Let me tell you the complete pooja vidhi.

Simple Havan Vidhi at Home

  1. Draw a square mandala on the floor with rice powder and write the symbol of Om and also of the deity in the middle.

  2. On the right hand side, place a copper vessel filled with water and topped with mango leaves and a coconut.

  3. Offer your prayers to Lord Ganesha and then to the deity.

  4. Take turmeric powder and spread it over the mandala, making food offerings around the pot to the deity.

  5. Have some sand in the kund. Arrange 3 to 4 pieces of wood above it. Pour some ghee on wood and arrange some camphor in it.

  6. Take water in your right hand and recite, ‘Om Amrito Upastranmasi Swaha’ and drink the water.

  7. Again, take water in your right hand and recite, ‘Om Amrita Apidhanmasi Swaha’ and drink the water.

  8. Repeat the ame and recite, ‘Om Satyam Yashah Shri Mayi Shri Shraytaam Swaha’ and drink the water.

  9. Wash your hands and burn the fire with a matchstick.

  10. Offer ghee to it 108 times while repeating the mantra of the deity.

  11. Recite Vedic mantras after this.

  12. Keep offering a mixture called ahuti of items or samgris, including sesame seed (til), oat (jaun), panchmeva, sandalwood (chandan), jaggery (desi khand), havan samgri, guggul and camphor (kapur).

  13. In the end of the recitartions, place a coconut filled with ghee into the fire. (Om poornam-adah poornam-idah poorna-aat poornamvashishyate. Om poorna-asya poornam-aadaaya poornam-evaa vashishyate. Om shaanti shaanti shaanti swaha).

  14. Conclude the havan with aarti.

  15. Remember to donate something to the needy after the havan. Havan is said to be incomplete without a donation.

I hope this helps.
