Pongal Decoration Ideas at Home
Here are a few ideas of Pongal decoration at home.
Start with a Rangoli: One of my favourite traditions is making a beautiful kolam (rangoli) at the entrance. I use rice flour, turmeric, and vibrant colors to create patterns of flowers, sun motifs, and even sugarcane. It sets such a welcoming tone for the celebrations and is a must for Pongal decoration.
Decorate with Torans and Flowers: Mango leaves and marigold garlands are my go-to. I hang them over doorways, windows, and even mirrors. It instantly lifts the vibe and brings in a traditional touch. You can add small jasmine strands for extra fragrance.
Showcase Traditional Pots: For a festive vibe, I paint traditional clay pots with bright colors and floral patterns. These pots, filled with grains or flowers, make a perfect brief touch. Trust me, this brief touch is a hit among guests and part of my favourite part.
Add Sugarcane and Coconuts: I place sugarcane stalks and coconuts near the entrance or the pooja area. It’s simple yet symbolic of the harvest season, and it feels so festive.
Light It Up: Diya is essential for me. I place them around the rangoli and in the pooja room. At night, fairy lights wrapped around pillars or windows add a magical glow.
I hope you understand how to decorate home for Pongal.
